Lethargy or Procrastination? The two often get muddled up in our minds as the outcomes are often very similar.
Lethargy is more of a medical condition which is characterised by feelings of fatigue as well as a lack of mental or physical motivation.
It can be caused by day-to-day activities such as: • Over exertion • Sleep deprivation • Heavy workout • Stress • Excess alcohol consumption • Boredom • Depression
Or by underlying medical issues such as Anaemia and Hypothyroidism.
It may also be used to describe more generalised feelings of fatigue as well as a lack of mental or physical motivation.
Lethargy is more of an uncontrollable thing without intervention, because your brain chemistry is out of whack most likely due to an underlying medical condition or depletion of a key chemistry component in your body. BUT that medical condition especially if anaemia can be influenced by the foods that we eat, how we eat and when.
Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks or decisions. It can also be used to describe the acts of: • Incorrectly estimating the time required to complete certain tasks, or how much time they have left • Waiting for the right time, inspiration or motivation
But we all know that we have control over these things… we are just blinkered in some way. So procrastination is within our realms of immediate control.
The truth is that if we are suffering from lethargy, procrastination will most likely follow brought on by a sense of overwhelm.
In my time I have had both anaemia and hypothyroidism undiagnosed and poorly controlled. I found that if I didn’t control both adequately, I was running on adrenaline. At that time, I was a mum of a small boy too which triggered a heightened stress response, and most likely cortisol release, which led to low sugar levels and the shakes. So, I would reach for carbohydrates to fuel my immediate situation.
Lately I have realised that removing most of the carbohydrates and eating more protein has really worked for me. Energy levels are less spikey, weight reduced and I felt the most well I have in years.
Today I challenge you to think about your levels of lethargy / procrastination.
Do you:–
1. Put things off because they just don’t float your boat or… 2. Just not have the energy to pull your finger out, give yourself a talking to and do what is needed?
If you answered YES to either of those questions then why not book a ‘Tea with B’ session and we can talk about how you break the cycle!
